Political Relations

Egypt recognized the independence of Uzbekistan on December 26, 1991. In 2017, 25 years have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and the ARE (January 23, 1992).

May 1993 The Embassy of Egypt was opened in Tashkent. The diplomatic representation of Uzbekistan in Egypt began its activity in December 1994.

The Uzbek-Egyptian relations received tangible development after the official visits of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I.A. Karimov to the ARE in December 1992. and April 2007

On September 4-5, 2018, the official visit of the President of the ARE A. al-Sisi to the Republic of Uzbekistan took place, during which promising areas for the development of Uzbek-Egyptian cooperation were discussed, and 12 documents on cooperation in various fields were signed.

Uzbekistan interacts with Egypt within the framework of international and regional structures, such as the UN, OIC, etc.

The legal framework of the two countries includes 62 documents of an interstate, intergovernmental and interdepartmental nature.

So far, 6 meetings of the joint Uzbek-Egyptian intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation have been held.

Uzbekistan is actively cooperating with the Agency for the Development of Cooperation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the ARE. Since 1993 to date, more than 1,100 representatives of Uzbekistan have been trained in the Agency's courses for diplomats, tourism workers, teachers of the Arabic language, etc.

In 1997 the friendship society "Uzbekistan-Egypt" was created, and in May 2000. "Egypt-Uzbekistan", which contribute to the development of bilateral cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.

October 10-13, 2018 the visit of the head of the al-Azhar religious complex, the Supreme Imam of Egypt, Sheikh Ahmad at-Tayib, to Uzbekistan took place.
